Leading the Arts Through a Pandemic: Music's Ph.D. Students

In the final episode of the Leading the Arts Through a Pandemic series, Dean Barker sits down with Joao Martins (Ph.D. History and Theory of Music ’25) and Omar Costa Hamido (Ph.D. Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology ’21) to discuss their experience in the two unique Ph.D. programs in the Music department. After completing an M.F.A. in Musicology at CTSA, Martins is continuing his study of traditional Brazilian in contemporary culture through the History and Theory of Music Ph.D. program. Hamido is in his final year of the ICIT Ph.D. program, and currently completing his thesis on Quantum Computing and Music Composition.

ArtsTalk is a series of interdisciplinary conversations with Dean Stephen Barker and CTSA students, faculty and staff across the four departments of Art, Dance, Drama and Music.
